British Columbia: Stanley Park -Vancouver

I had no idea what we were getting into when we hopped off the no. 19 bus at the Stanley Park Loop. This is a huge park and very confusing. We were lost almost immediately. The signs within the park are few and far between, and I didn’t have a map. I owe a debt of gratitude to all the people who took the time to give us directions. We didn’t realize when we entered the park at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 19th that we would be right in the middle of the Terry Fox Run. I don’t know how many people are in the park on an average Sunday, but this was no average Sunday.

In spite of my lack of planning (which if you know me is rare), we did manage to see some of the highlights of the park. The Girl in a Wetsuit certainly fits that category as do the Totem poles.

Be prepared to do a lot of walking unless you take the horse-drawn trolley tour. The tour looked like fun but was more than I was willing to spend to be escorted around.

We walked through the children’s petting zoo, which appeared to be closed for the season, it is closed permanently now.  Most of the concession stands were also closed. Restrooms can be a problem to locate so please have a map to know their location when you enter the park.

The hardest thing for us was finding the bus again. We never did find the loop and we weren’t alone. We befriended a young girl who had completed the Terry Fox Run and was also looking for the bus. Together we managed to get back out of the park and locate a bus stop in the city. Just remember, go through the underpass, as it takes you out into the city again.

The view of Vancouver from Stanley Park and the View of the Lions Gate Bridge make all the walking worthwhile. It really is quite stunning.
