Seeing Santa on a Train in Connecticut

The Essex Steam Train and Riverboat offers two separate Christmas time experiences. One is during the day and the other in the evening. Both take place on weekends.

The North Pole Express is a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas. What is the North Pole Express you ask? It is a train that runs in the evening at 5:00, 5:35, 7:00 and 7:35. On board the train each car will have an elf, fairy or reindeer who will entertain the participants with Christmas Carols, stories and lots of energy.

The train travels to the North Pole where both Santa and Mrs. Claus board the train and interact with the children. Great photo ops are provided. There will also be cookies and hot chocolate served by sleepy servers. The entire trip takes about an hour and a half.

For younger children, The Santa Special takes places in the daytime at 11.30, 1:00 and 2:30. There are no hosts and no refreshments but there is plenty of time to get a great photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
For 2014, the North Pole Express is sold out but by checking their Facebook page, you can keep up with 2015 and be among the first to get your tickets for next year. There are still some tickets available for the Santa Special.
