Virginia: Annual Historic Home Tour Winchester

Yesterday here in Winchester, Va. was the Annual Historic House Tour. Six privately owned homes of historic significance are opened to the public from 1-5 p.m on the first Sunday of December. The houses are of different construction types including some log homes. The tour is sponsored by Preservation of Historic Winchester and has been happening for 38 years.

It is a very popular tour. The homes were for the most part filled to capacity. It was difficult to get around in most of them because there were too many people inside. I am not sure if they limit the number of tickets sold but certainly limiting the number of person allowed into the home at any given time would be a good idea.

Having said that, the homes are lovely and decorated quite differently from one another. Some had a lot of elaborate decorations and others were more minimalistic.

As you can see, there were carolers on the street. If you are looking for an event to get you into the Christmas spirit and enjoy history and house tours, this is something you may want to plan ahead for next year.

You do need to be able to climb stairs to do this tour. http://www.phwi.org/

  1. This looks awesome and beautiful and is on my list of things to do someday (there are a few towns here in Va. I'd like to do this!)
