Presidents Day Weekend at Monticello

Hemings Family Tour
February Weekends and Presidents’ Day (February 16)
11 am
The Hemings Family Tour explores the first floor of Monticello and the mountaintop landscape, including newly recreated buildings along Mulberry Row. This tour tells the story of slavery in Virginia through the lens of the Hemings Family, the best documented enslaved family in the United States. Over the course of Jefferson’s life, five generations of the Hemings family (more than 80 people) were enslaved at Monticello. At the time of Jefferson’s death, one-third of the 130 African Americans living on the Monticello Plantation belonged to this one family.
