Iceland's Fjörukráin Viking Festival

Is 2017 is the year that you are going to take that unique vacation you have been dreaming about?  Why not consider heading to Iceland for an amazing Viking adventure.

The Fjörukráin Viking Festival has taken place in mid-June for 27 years.   The festival takes place in the seaside village of Hafnarfjordur which is an easy 15 minute drive from Reykjavik. Most guest will fly into Reykjavik and while it is possible to stay in Reykjavik,  additional accommodations are available in nearby villages including Hilo and Vogar.

Guests will enjoy the Viking market, scheduled battles, traditional Viking food, axe throwing and archery displays, Viking school for children, storytelling, music and dancing and much more. Guest have been known to be kidnapped by the Norse god Thor and to really get into the spirit, costumes are encouraged.

Dining on traditional Viking food is a favorite Fjörukráin Viking Festival activity. Some of the dishes offered are shark, dried fish, braised lamb shank, fish soup and it should be washed down with the famous Icelandic aquavit, Brennivin. Finish up with a dessert of skyr yogurt with blueberry sauce.

The year-round Viking Village in Fjorukrain is the perfect complement to a visit to the Fjörukráin Viking Festival. If like most Europeans, you have Viking roots, this is the perfect opportunity to explore them.
