Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast, Chester Heights, Penn.

Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast is located just a short drive off of the Baltimore Pike/Route 1 in Chester Heights, Penn. It has a commanding position on the top of a hill and there are extensive grounds surrounding the beautiful stone building. As impressive as the exterior is, it in no way prepares you for the warm and lovely interior. There is a very English feel to the décor and you will be transported to an English country home. There is a good reason for this, be sure to engage Ashley or Glenn in a conversation about England and ask about the Tower of London.

Glenn was a gracious host, especially since there was a misunderstanding and he was not expecting to provide us breakfast before our tour of the bed and breakfast. He was able to serve a lovely breakfast for two while filling us in on all the amenities that the inn has to offer. A billiard room on the first floor is something most bed and breakfast don’t provide. A parlor which available to guests is also very inviting.

If you are looking for a special getaway, the Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast offers themed cooking schools several times a year. Check out their website for when the next one is being offered. In the past, they have offered The Last Meal on the Titanic and Hooray for Hollywood.

Accommodations In the house consists of five rooms and two suites. Additionally, two cottages that can be rented by the week, with or without the bed and breakfast option, are available. This bed and breakfast prides itself on being dog-friendly, well-behaved and groomed pets are welcome, subject to rules of course.

The name of this bed and breakfast intrigued me since I am from Connecticut and Hamanassett is a state park on Long Island Sound. The family that built this house had the last name of Meigs. They can trace their roots back to the area of Connecticut where Meigs Point at Hamanassett Beach State Park is located. It seemed like kismet when I was asked to visit here.

If you are looking for someplace very special to stay, the Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place in the Brandywine Valley to do just that. The house and grounds are beautiful, the rooms are plush and the owners are friendly and accommodating. What more could you want? Great food, well you will get that too.
