Maine: Eating Blueberry Pancakes in Maine

plate with three blueberry pancakes
One of the things that everyone should try at least once in their life is eating Maine blueberry pancakes in Maine. We are frequent visitors and these are two personal favorite places to get your Maine blueberry fix.

The Maine Diner

One of the best places in Maine to get a nice stack of blueberry pancakes is The Maine Diner. A stack of three costs $5.95 and if you want real maple syrup, add a $1 extra. Bacon brings it up by $3. By the time you add coffee and tip. breakfast for two is going to set you back about $30 but who cares, this is Maine and these are real Maine blueberries.

Breakfast isn't the only meal that they serve here and if you are staying in the area and want something besides blueberry pancakes, I recommend their lobster pie. It is offered at market price so it isn't going to be inexpensive but this is lobster we are talking about. They mix the lobster with stuffing and bake it in the oven. All the luscious flavor of lobster with none of the work, just dig your fork in and devour. Their baked beans are outstanding as well, homemade not out of the can here.

If you arrive and the line is out the door, do what we did the last time we were there, walk-in and order New England Clam Chowder to go and enjoy it in your car. You will be the envy of all the people waiting in line.

They also make the best homemade desserts. If you like bread or Grapenut pudding their's are excellent. Thick and rich and served with whipped cream, darn near perfection. Service is okay, they are always busy but the food is good enough to justify the wait that can ensue. This is not just a tourist trap either as a visit in the off-season will prove.

Becky's Diner on Hobson Wharf

Becky's was a Rachael Ray choice on her $40 a day show. It is near the water and it is no secret that they have a fabulous breakfast. Even in the cold and rainy weather, there will be a line going out the door on a weekend.

Rachael recommended the Maine blueberry pancakes and who am I to tell her she is mistaken? They are a good size and light and fluffy. You can also have some fresh Maine blueberries in their fresh fruit bowl as long as they are in season, with or without yogurt and granola. The three pancakes will cost you $7.50 and the maple syrup is $1.75 bacon is $3.50 but of course, this is in downtown Portland so they are city prices.

They have a good menu of omelets and French toast as well as cooked to order cream of wheat and oatmeal so you need to allow a little time if you want to order them. I liked my pancake but I loved my yogurt, granola, and fruit bowl. The fruits are always changing but they are fresh and it is a great light breakfast option.

These are just two of the many restaurants that serve local Maine blueberries in their breakfast blueberry pancakes. You can use my suggestions or find some new ones of your own.
